The Delta Dental Difference

1. Significant Cost Savings
Delta Dental provides a comprehensive package of benefits, coupled with superior cost management techniques.

  • Dentist's fees are based on a regional fee schedule which is reviewed annually.
  • Contracting dentists accept these agreed upon fees and your employees'
co-payments are calculated off these negotiated dentist fees rather than the dentists' submitted charges.
  • No Balance Billing - cost savings are not shifted to employees. Members cannot be billed for the difference between the participating dentist's submitted charge and the Delta Dental allowed charge, further reducing employee out-of-pocket expenses.

2. Hassle-Free Customer Service
We'll resolve your questions immediately over the phone or we guarantee an initial update within one business day and continuous follow up through resolution.

3. No Claim Forms
All participating dentists complete and forward all claims directly to Delta Dental of Massachusetts, thereby eliminating the paperwork for members.

4. Quick Processing of Claims
During the course of a policy year, over 90% of the group's claims will be processed accurately within 15 business days.

5. National Provider Network
Delta Dental offers access to a nationwide network of dentists. Over 223,000 dentist locations—or three out of every four dentists—participate in our Delta Dental Premier with National Coverage plan. So your members will be hard pressed to find a dentist who doesn't contract with us.

6. Excellent Quality Control
As part of our corporate philosophy, we continuously look for ways to improve necessary controls to ensure that high standards of dental care continue to be furnished to patients. Our quality assurance system is comprised of:

  • Utilization reviews to ensure appropriateness of care
  • Audits and site visits
  • Dentist credentialing
  • Customer satisfaction surveys
  • Grievance tracking and resolution
  • Dental case management and outcomes research
  • Research studies aimed at identifying alternatives to treating and curing dental disease

7. Service Excellence
Many competitors talk about providing the elusive goal of excellent service - we guarantee it. Our Guarantee of Service Excellence sm guarantees quality customer service in writing and is backed by a comprehensive refund policy.

8. Financial Strength and Stability
Nothing speaks more clearly about the stability of our customer relationships than our account retention rate, which has averaged 98% over the last six years. Our specialization as a dental benefits only provider demands a secure financial foundation and our sound financial standing is reflected in our Annual Reports.

9. Our Commitment to Oral Health through our Preventistry sm Philosophy.
At Delta Dental of Massachusetts, improving oral health is our number one priority. That's why we are embracing the Preventistry philosophy, a multi-faceted approach to oral health care that recognizes the important roles of dentists, patients and the insurer in improving oral health.

The Preventistry approach includes:

Enhanced Benefits - We continue to lead the industry in making the latest innovative, evidence-based benefits available to our members, including coverage for Chlorhexidine mouth rinse and prescription-strength fluoride toothpaste for members with periodontal disease, and extended sealant coverage for members ages 16-19 who have had a recent cavity. We also cover periodontal cleanings (up to 4 per year) as a Type I benefit for members who have had scaling and root planing and are in periodontal maintenance.

Partnering with Accounts – We will provide accounts with 500 or more employees with an annual Preventistry Oral Health Report which presents a snapshot of the oral health status of the company’s employees, as well as the amount of preventive care they’ve received and comparative benchmarks for companies in similar industries.

  • New Member Education We send new members information about the importance of oral health care and ways to prevent oral disease
  • Outreach We identify members with dental disease (specifically those with caries and periodontal disease) and providing information on ways they can effectively manage their disease and
  • Partnering with Dentists We provide our dentists with Preventistry Patient Reports that assist them in identifying and reaching out to higher-risk patients, and incentives that reward successful care management.
