Too Much Toothpaste?

Say it isn't so!

Yes, even toothpaste can be bad for children if they use too much of it — increasing later risk for fluorosis, according to an article in the Journal of the American Dental Association. Fluorosis causes permanent tooth discoloration when young people ingest too much fluoride.

According to the Journal of the American Dental Association, there are two things parents should do:

1) Limit children to a pea-sized amount of toothpaste.

2) Tell children to spit out, not swallow, toothpaste.
